JOB SUMMARY
First stage in corporate career development program toward long-term civil construction estimating or project management. An intern in estimating and project management provide technical support to the Estimating and Project Management Teams. Primarily perform quantity takeoff for civil and environmental construction projects utilizing various computer/software aided methods. Helps to transition successful bids into active construction projects. Works at the direction of Chief Estimator and lead project estimators. This is a college-based position. Successful candidates are typically offered permanent positions on a career building track (70% Hire Rate).
CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review plans, specifications, addendums, scope details, and RFI’s to have an understanding of the work and items to be included in the estimate.
- Assist in the building of basic estimate structure in B2W Estimate (primary estimating software).
- Perform detailed computer-aided quantity takeoffs using current take-off software systems.
- Estimate and create an accurate materials list needed for civil projects using estimating software packages.
- Professionally solicit vendors, suppliers and subcontractors
- Communicate and interact well with inside and outside sales people.
- Assist with technical questions from customers, sales reps, and MCI personnel.
- Identify/evaluate/understand plans/bid documents to assist with bid qualification.
- Review quotes and third-party estimates for accuracy and ensure they match MCI scope detail.
- Pre-qualify potential accepted bids with contractors and review/level scope of work estimate.
- Requires working closely with MCI estimators.
- Learn and develop understanding and working knowledge of products used in construction projects.
- Works to pass-off successfully bid projects to MCI Project Management teams.
- Begin development of project management skills including procurement and scheduling.
- Perform additional duties as assigned and assist managers as needed.

Hourly Rate
$23 – $25 /hour
