The Albany Street Overflow Sewer Improvement Project is providing structural rehabilitation of an existing 1900s cobblestone sewer as well as the rehabilitation of the cast-in-place culvert from the 1950s. The sewer has experienced significant deterioration caused by groundwater and submerged conditions.

Mark Cerrone, Inc. is installing a shoring system to allow for access to the existing cobblestone tunnel where MCI will remove a portion, deploy divers to fill in with concrete while underwater and abandon in place. A new cast-in-place concrete box culvert will then be installed from an existing overflow chamber and reconnect to the existing 1950’s era box culvert that was installed by NYSTA during the construction of the Interstate 190.
